4. HII Regions: These are areas where the interstellar gas has been ionised by the intense ultraviolet radiation emitted by hot, young stars. HII regions often surround clusters of massive stars and are responsible for the colourful nebulae we often associate with star-forming regions.


Birthplaces of Stars:

Molecular clouds within the interstellar medium play a pivotal role in star formation. Gravitational forces, triggered by external factors like shockwaves from supernovae or the influence of nearby stars, can cause regions of a molecular cloud to collapse. As the gas and dust gather together, they form protostars, which eventually ignite into full-fledged stars.
